Miss Muffet

Friday, October 10th, 2008

I’m working out some ideas for some paintings going to a gallery in Georgia, about bedtime stories, I won’t be using this one.

Little Miss Muffet is a nursery rhyme. It first appeared in print in 1805, in a book titled Songs for the Nursery.

Like many such rhymes, its origins are unclear. Some claim it was written by Dr. Thomas Muffet, a 16th century English entomologist, for his stepdaughters

Little Miss Muffet
Sat on a tuffet
Eating her curds and whey.
Along came a spider
Who sat down beside her
And frightened Miss Muffet away.
