Call for Art

Barbie Redux

Barbie turned fifty this year, time to give her new life! so, I am coordinating an altered Barbie exhibit.

Any one may submit. Consider Barbie a blank canvas. By alteration I mean, painted, cut, re-assembled, decorated, embellished, collaged, tatooed, pierced, melted, sewn, adorned, hanging, standing, sitting, twirling, enclosed. She must be display ready, ie, if she can not stand, provide a stand for her, if she is to be hung, have something from which to hang her by. Be imaginative, turn Barbie into art.

There is a ten dollar entry fee payable through paypal.

Submissions will be considered only after the fee has been paid. The fees will offset the cost of promotions, etc and will go to the gallery. You may submit one to five pieces. I will be jurying the work and will accept at least one of your entries up to five. Paying the ten dollar entrance fee does not guarantee acceptance. Notification of accepted pieces will be emailed before and no later than mid June. I am looking for a wide variety of work and I encourage you to let your imagination go.

Submissions will be accepted by email only Until May 30th, 09. After you have paid your entrance fee, email your submissions to patricia_anders@yahoo.com Please send low res files (resolution of 72) , include titles and any pertinent details.

The exhibit is presented in the store front window of the Ten Women Gallery, a highly visible venue on a well trafficked street in Venice California, Ten Women Gallery. Please do not contact the gallery with your questions. I am responsible for this exhibit and will be doing all the coordinating. You can contact me at the same email address indicated above. I will install the show and the gallery will hold an opening night reception, and encourage participating artists to attend. The gallery will notify people from our extensive mailing list and make announcements online and locally as is pertinent. The gallery will have postcards made. The show will remain for four weeks during the month of August.

If your work is accepted I will email you a copy of the contract and further details. The gallery will retain 50% of any sales and you will be required to pay for shipping for the return of your work. accepted works need to be mailed by July 30th.

I’ll keep this announcement available in the side bar under “Pages”

Art Biz coach

from Alyson Stanfield today
“When times are good, artists make art.
When times are bad, artists make art.
When time stands still, artists will continue making art.

Artists who are true to themselves do not make art for the marketplace, but for themselves–to start a dialogue with their viewers, their fans, and the world. They make art because they have something to say that is best said not with words, but through a creative act. They make art because they have to. The marketing stuff can come later. ”

“Never neglect the studio. Always return to your art. The disciplined practice of making art is mandatory. Everything else is optional.”
