Its countdown to Alice in Wonderland!! This week! finally after months of waiting.

The Red Queen
The first thing you notice about Helena Bonham Carter in the role of the Red Queen is the size of that noggin. “Oh, it’s true, I can’t even look at Helena anymore because now her real head just seems like a small orange — like she’s got some shrunken head,” Burton deadpans. But when he looks at the Red Queen, he thinks of two people — one of his own relatives and the infamous real-estate baroness known as the “queen of mean.” “She reminds me of pictures I’ve seen of Leona Helmsley. There’s a tiny bit of elements of my mother in there too, for some strange reason. And Helena brings her own things to it too.”

Mad Hatter
Johnny Depp’s latest has made a specialty of hiding his leading-man cheekbones within oddball disguise and the latest is a google-eyed hat maker who’s gone around the bend. The shock of tangerine curls jutting from beneath his hat and his orange-rimmed eyeballs hint at the story lineage of his madness; orange-tinted mercury was once used in the manufacture of felt in Victorian England and it seeped through the scalp skin with some nasty side effects. Burton liked the idea of orangeness for another more personal reason. “There is something really scary about orange hair. Every performer in my childhood who had orange hair, it seemed to signify that they … were not to be trusted and could be dangerous. Bozo, Carrot Top, Ralph Malph…”

A couple of weeks I was at the book store and noticed a book by the ever awesome Camille Rose Garcia, her very own brand of “Alice in Wonderland” illustrations, I would have bought it but the the actual illustrations were very small, and just sides to the written word. If a picture book comes out I will get it to add to my collection. She has a show coming up of the original works at Merry Karnowsky which is here in southern cali. I hope to find time to go see it.

In Between

In between working on Fight Club girls and munnys, I’m working out ideas for hand puppets.

Today I have to pack up paintings to send to Puerto Rico, I am enchanted with the idea of some of my paintings hanging in the homes of people so far away.

Pugs are snoring. The ducks did not stop by this morn. Jerry is working and I am on the puter with Lorena Mckennit in the background.

Lately I have listened to this over and over, I just love it, of course I am also a red hot chili peppers fan and this version just rocks my boat.

By the Vitamin String Quartet, “Snow, (Hey Oh)”

Referring to the recent news story about a Killer whale at Sea World (or the like) and the trainer who drowned while working with said whale, I don’t think that killer whale should be killed. I think they should put him back in his natural environs. It always amazes me when people blame wild animals for behaving like wild animals. People choose to take a risk when they work with them. Crocodile hunter, that guy who went to alaska to live with bears, that circus trainer who got mauled by that giant white tiger, the lady who’s face got torn off by a chimpanzee, and on and on. Its just crazy, if we aren’t going to eat them maybe we should just let them live their lives the way they were born to do.

Yesterday I drove to work with the top down, at about 65 degrees its perfect for me, I adore the cool wind in my face, its soothing and uplifting. Especially past the ocean, where the sun gently breaks through the breeze.

I keep thinking about a documentary I saw a few days ago on HBO called the Reporter who spends his life reporting atrocities in other countries, how meaningful and rich his life is. And, how difficult it is to continuously report in a way that hopefully exacts change. But his unfailing compassion is what really moved me, inspiring.

Mr and Mrs Duck

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

I heard Mr and Mrs duck from the bedroom before I got up this morning so I opened the blinds to take a peek at them while they were completely unaware of me as they glided and pecked at the pool water and to my surprise they were doing some kind of dance where in they were bouncing their heads in unison when suddenly, boomp! mating. right in the pool. somehow that dosn’t sit well with me. Heh, they may be overstaying their welcome. :b

Fight CLub Girl

“It’s a man’s movie, supposedly, so why did I think it was the best feminist statement of the 90s? Maybe because it was time to watch a man learn what women have always known: That living a life defined by home furnishings, fashion, commercialized domesticity and constant messages about how your body should look can literally drive you batty.” Sheerly Avni

My online friend Rich Holoch has created a blog. I recently had a discussion with him about this because he makes some fascinating assemblage pieces that have stories behind them. He has actually been working on a book with the various ideas and concepts behind the pieces which he plans to upload daily to his blog. Check it out and bookmark if you are so inclined, he is brand new to the blogosphere and could use a few like minded friends. ky6r

On this the eve of Valentines Day I give you Sassafras and Balthazar who have been together for about ten years now. They love each other even though they fight over rice cakes now and then.
