YOu are worth the time

well said and so true!
It is nearly done, the size is so much bigger than I have become use to, I didn’t realize quite how much time and effort it would take. I am enjoying it but I am at that point where little else is getting done in my efforts to finish. I am a little undecided about how to handle the bottom half. I won’t be able to take a good pic of it until its hanging on the living room wall, so for now, just a quick semi focused off angled view from my iphone.
I went to La Luz de Jesus To pick up my signed copies of The Snow Yak and Fucigi Circus by Mark Ryden, he was there on Valentines day signing the books.
the books are beautiful, I’m a happy camper.
The current exhibit is awesome. Its paper mache, larger than life figures. the light was streaming in from outside casting an eerie glow.
some of the figures look amphibian like.
the shrouded figures look ghostly of course. and some look angelic.
oil on canvas, “Red Confetti” is 4 feet by five feet a work in progress. It is the largest size I do, any larger means issues with transportation, or selling.
I wanted to put red birds in this painting as I thought they would add great spots of color and contrast to the sky, so I did a search on flickr for red birds and found an image I was quite taken with. The photograph was titled red confetti and it looked like part of the sky was dense with red confetti and hands reaching up as if having thrown it, it was striking against the sky and at closer inspection, you see that the confetti is shaped like flying birds, brilliant! and the caption explains that the confetti has lyrics on the bird’s wings. I adore the idea and the concept, touching. At the last, I will add words to the wings, stylistically I am debating about it and about the meaning the words will carry. The hoop skirt of course is a cage from which the birds exit, I still have some more thinking to do about the conceptual aspects and also how I want to finish out the colors, I’m thinking to tone down or mute the color so the red birds will pop. This picture is cropped and taken at an odd angle.
I do need to make my way over to La Luz de Jesus to pick up something I am excited about, just not sure I will make it out there today. Its rainy and cold. Pugs are snoring. I have a glue book I am working in every day, its helping me to keep organized.
I have not submitted or entered a single competition or art show at all this year so far, not sure why I am not motivated, but need to snap out of it. I am going to submit to a show a friend told me about that is art on vinyl records or the covers or both because I have been saving such things for that very purpose for over 15 years. I think they look really cool old but its time to do something with them already.
some of the records are damaged but others of them are in perfect condition.
I was, eep, a bit spoiled on Valentines day. And quite bummed that the gift I ordered for my hub still hasn’t arrived! very bad!!!!
early in the day love came from my brother in the form of chocolate covered strawberries, oh my. so sweet.
and a little later these beautiful roses from my hub, so colorful and happy inducing.
its good to be loved! I know a lot of people hate valentines day, but it really doesn’t have to be commercial, a person can write a poem (free!) or bake a treat (heart shaped cookies), or make a card or do a favor, or make a meal, there are so many ways to show love!
My friend Quin almost made it over earlier in the week to help make valentine cookies I wanted to send some to the grand kidlets but we both just got side tracked, delayed and tired 🙁 we tried to get together and make cookies before the Christmas holiday as well and the same thing happened. LOL, so now I am thinking about getting together for the st patricks day holiday and making four leaf clover cookies! ha, anyway you look at it, we are baking a lot of cookies in our mind!
I know this isn’t art or about art but art and life do overlap and intertwine. Gratititudes make everything better.
Speaking of gratitudes (yes I made that word up) I am very grateful for the art lovers in my world and I sent valentine cards to only a small portion of my mailing list, I just plain ran of time, so don’t be surprised if you get a belated valentine, I figure its never to late to spread the love.
I’m determined to get some art made today or started or finished, (like cookies, I have made a lot of art in my mind !)
have a great day reader of tricia blog.
Alex Noriega’s illustrations and quips absolutely charm the heck out of me. So simple and clever at the same time, If you are unfamiliar with his work, or just want a few good chuckles check him out at stuff no one told me
how very exciting for the Egyptian people how jubilant they seem, how crazy the days ahead must be but it can only be for the better.
