This Weekend

Friday, August 31st, 2007

I’ll be going out of town this weekend. In an attempt to avoid some of the labor day traffic I will leave at noon tomorrow and return home Sunday, I have no interest in flying, giving the confusion and congestion that will exist at the airport.  Going to spend some time with girlfriends.

I’ve seen that some artists are now hand making their business cards like miniature works of art. I would like to have plenty of blanks to take with me everywhere and work on them when I find myself having to wait somewhere for some reason, even if its just hand drawing.  I think people would be more inclined to keep a business card on their fridge if its an original work of art, although having business card blanks in addition to needing a purse and a camera and a journal for jotting down ideas and sketches, is probably just one more thing too much.

I’m interested in pursuing the cocooning idea further, some manner of three dimension. I was trying to envision felt for a cocoon, but not sure that I want to dabble into yet another media. Perhaps papier mache wrapped with something fibery like eyelash yarn and then smoothed out with resin to give a shiney veneer. Maybe. Would want to put little figures inside, so the cocoon would have to be openable or else the cocoon would have to be one with the figure. hmm, that may be the way to go, thinking out loud here. I would like to make them in two sizes, some doll size and some ornament size, yes I think I will do both.

A little bit of a tangent; here is Bjork singing cocoon, the guy caressing the head of the other guy has a microphone in his hand which creates subtle sound effects.

I really don’t understand how I got yellow oil paint all over my foot. Luckily it isn’t on the bottom of my foot where I might have tracked it through the house.

I’m very tired but unable to sleep.

My brother’s death is in my pores.

Cocooning

Temps are way to high in southern Cali, I’m melting.

I’m thinking about listing giclees and prints on ebay since all fees are waived for the month of September.

repeat visitors here know that my brother passed away recently. I kept a few cds that he had, like Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath and a few others I thought I would give a listen to. I’ve actually never listened to the full albums of any of these because generally I don’t care for hard rock. Anyway, I’m really loving Dark Side of the Moon. I’m just not sure if I can get through Nine Inch Nails however.

RIP dear brother

Sunday, August 26th, 2007

I’m back home now, its been a very difficult week. I lost my beloved brother very unexpectedly, he was not even fifty years old. It will take another week to wrap up details and at least a month to complete everything. I will continue to make art, its helpful to me.

Dear Readers

There has been a death in my family and I will be absent for at least a week. Wishing you art and creativity in between.

Dunce

Thursday, August 16th, 2007

Its been about a week of relentless health issues that have prevented me from being as prolific as I like to require of myself, yes I know everyone needs a break now and then but um I would like to decide for myself when to take that break. I often fully expect my mental ability to over ride my physical ability so that I can still can be productive.  This past week  the mental determination simply did not win over the physical.  Today was a bit better and I hope I can finish up what I have been working on and get started on several things I have in mind. When I’m feeling well there just isn’t enough hours in the day, love that.

This is one dunce of a series of dunces without wings. ;D

I’m not to pleased with his dunce cap as its not tall, thin, pointy enough but he still looks good to me.

With Girl Wearing a Scarf I was interested in changing the profile of the doll, just as a point of interest so I decided to make her appear to be moving like in a motorized skirt with her hair flowing behind her. The images are a bit blurry even after adjusting them in photoshop but I didn’t want to redo the photo shoot so maybe tomorrow.

My friend Jacqueline ( myerscho.com) recently gave me this piece, I love it both visually and conceptually.

About Today

Sunday, August 12th, 2007

Its been a tough one, I was up all night with some health issues and have been beyond tired all day. But there was a highlight just outside my front door ,a box of goodies from my art bud Cynjon. One of the things inside the box was this stunning doll:

She has peacock feathers at the top of her head, her luminescent face is framed with lavendar quartz and hand spun yarn, she has crochet and knitted and beaded areas, such a beauty

My brain has been foggy lately and my life mundane, so I thought I would spare my good readers even the shortest of entries! I did finish up a couple of ornies and this is one of them;

I’ll be sending this little pirate ornie home to the first person who comments here and can tell me, what is the name of my new series of paintings and why…:D
