This piece took a week to complete, she required many layers and repeated drying efforts (in the oven since there is no sunshine the past week). She also required sanding and I like the contrast between the smooth face with its subtle tones and the body with its heavy texture. There is an option to add legs which I do think I will do.
I incorporated some found objects in this piece, the eyes are actually pebbles. I also decoupaged some fabric at the skirt area. I tend to shy away from fabric because of fear of the piece looking less artsy and more craftsy, dolly. if that makes sense :b And, lately, I feel inclined to not call these little figures dolls since really they are not toys and probably shouldn’t be played with.
More dolls in the works but I need to make an excursion out of town today for a visit to the craft store. Its been a while since I have purchased supplies and while I could probably go a whole year without buying any more supplies there are some specific items that make my heart art production faster and easier. And, honestly, I just need a craft store shopping “fix” 😀
I have been working on some figures all week and finally this morning I have finished two of them. Its been a while since I have worked this way, so while tedious, I have enjoyed every moment. I build up the surface using small strips of torn paper, its paper mache.
this is a side view, you can see just how thin the piece is.
Also finished this one, although, because its laying down, you can not see the beads hanging from the finger tips, I’ll need to take another photo, holding it up.
these are painted with acrylics and glazed with modge podge.
